How To Cook Bighorn Sheep Meat?
Does bighorn sheep taste like lamb? Wild Sheep (at least Dahl Sheep) tastes like mutton. Properly cared for antelope is good.
What are bighorn sheep used for? Bighorn sheep are hunted for their meat and horns, which are used in ceremonies, as food, and as hunting trophies. They also serve as a source of ecotourism, as tourists come to see the bighorn sheep in their native habitat.
What is the difference between Dall sheep and bighorn sheep? Dall Sheep
Their horns are longer, thinner and yellowish in color when compared to horns of Bighorn Sheep. Their horns also tend to flare outward, away from the face. Ewes horns are usually not over 12 inches long. Dall rams can weigh 225 pounds and stand 40 inches tall at the shoulder.

Bighorn sheep live in the western mountainous regions of North America, ranging from southern Canada to Mexico. Males, called rams, have large horns that curl around their faces by eight years of age. These horns can weigh up to 30 pounds. Females, called ewes, have smaller horns that curve slightly to a sharp point within the first four years of life. Ewes and lambs stay together in herds.

Ram fighting is a blood sport between two rams (large-horned male sheep), held in a ring or open field. Although categorized as a blood sport and an act of animal cruelty, ram fights rarely resulted in the death of the defeated ram, as the loser often is allowed to flee the arena.
Only during rainy seasons do desert bighorn exhibit the usual behavior of their species. Bighorn sheep have the unique ability to be able to jump 6 meters from ledge to ledge.
In cooler seasons, bighorn can go without drinking water for months at a time as they get their necessary electrolytes from their diet. However, during summer, bighorn will often choose to drink daily when possible, although they can go without drinking water for 3 days in 100 degree temperatures.
Everyone I’ve talked to said ram is fine to eat, they haven’t noticed any ill effects, unless you butcher IN breeding season.

Aoudad meat is edible. When prepared properly, it can be tasty even. Even though aoudad are technically a goat/antelope subspecies, everyone in Texas just calls them sheep. Most of the knowledgeable people I’ve talked to about aoudad hunting said that I couldn’t eat the meat.
They do not shed their horns like ungulates shed antlers. Instead, their horns grow until the animal dies.
