What Is A Wether Dam Sheep?
What are wether sheep used for? Wethers are adult male sheep that have been castrated so they cannot breed. Wethers are used for wool production.
What does DAM mean sheep? Dam – mother. DE – digestible energy Diarrhea – increased frequency, fluidity, or volume of fecal excretion. Dock – to remove the tail (v) or the shortened tail of a sheep (n).
How do you weather sheep? The easiest and most common method of castration is the rubber ring or band. Using an elastrator tool (or ring extender), the band is placed above the testicles, around the neck of the lamb’s scrotum. Care should be taken not to place the band over the lamb’s rudimentary teats.

While sheep and goats seem similar and can be mated, they belong to different genera in the subfamily Caprinae of the family Bovidae. Sheep belong to the genus Ovis and have 54 chromosomes, while goats belong to the genus Capra and have 60 chromosomes. The offspring of a sheep-goat pairing is generally stillborn.
The lambs are normally weaned from their mothers between 2-4 months old when they will either go on to be breeding sheep (ewes or rams), or they’ll be reared for meat. The ewes then have a few months to get into top condition, ready for Autumn tupping when the process starts all over again.
The definition of a prolific breed used herein in reference to tropical environments is not so exacting as in Europe. In Europe many breeds have lambing percentages of 150 or more so that it is not until the litter size is over two that a breed is considered to come into the prolific class.
A group of sheep is called a flock. A farmer’s flock can range from two sheep to over 1,500 ewes with their lambs.

The removal of their tails is one of many abuses that young sheep endure. No matter the method, tail-docking has been shown to cause pain in lambs. Removing (or “docking”) lambs’ tails is a painful procedure that’s performed on very young animals, usually without anesthetic.
Body temperature: The normal body temperature of sheep and goats is 101.5 to 103.5 F.
Most goats and sheep spend most of their time outside, but livestock that live outside may need special care when the winter weather sets in. All animals need some kind of shelter even if it is only a windbreak. Animals utilize more calories to maintain body temperature in cold weather to stay warm.

The most common (and the most accurate) name for a baby sheep is lamb, but the “lamb” term can accurately be used to describe any sheep which is under a year old. The word lamb is also used to describe the meat of any sheep under a year of age, which is why it can get a bit confusing for folks who are new to sheep.
Mutton refers to the flesh of the mature ram or ewe at least one year old; the meat of sheep between 12 and 20 months old may be called yearling mutton. The meat of sheep 6 to 10 weeks old is usually sold as baby lamb, and spring lamb is from sheep of age five to six months.
Once the lambs have mothered up (bonded with their mums, to you and me) it is best to get them away from people and out into the fields. This is why at night you will often hear ewes and lambs baaing and bleating to each other, so that they can pair up. This is why they make such a lot of noise at night time.
Sheep shouldn’t be left alone, but if they are properly fed, watered, and sheltered, they’re usually fine for most of the day. However, you should still be aware of potential threats that could occur when you’re gone. Some preventative measures to help include electric fencing and light or sound alarms.
Cotswold Sheep
Cotswold sheep are usually calm and friendly. It is also a dual-purpose breed producing both meat and wool.
They are typically low-maintenance when it comes to feeding and can produce meat, wool and milk. Sheep even make it easy to earn extra small-farm income. Just beware: Sheep are so great that you might end up with a larger flock than you intended. Once you get a few, it’s difficult to keep from adding more.
Sheep farming is a profitable business than goat farming as sheep can attain good weight within a short period of time. Sheep manure is an important source of soil fertility too. Additionally, the production of wool, meat, and manure provides three different sources of income per year.
Rams are male bighorn sheep, animals that live in the mountains and often settle arguments with fights that include ramming their heads into others. Not to be confused with mountain goats, rams can be identified by their long, curved horns, long fur, and split hooves.
The meat from a lamb is tenderer as compared to the meat obtained from an adult sheep. On the other hand, mutton has more flavor. For most people that enjoy eating whole cuts like roasts and chops, lamb does the trick. It is mainly because of the tenderness of meat obtained from lambs.
Lamb typically has more saturated fat — which can raise your levels of bad cholesterol, putting you at higher risk of cardiovascular disease — than beef or pork.
