Where Is Cow Hollow Neighborhood San Francisco?
Why is it called Cow Hollow? In 1776, when San Francisco’s first settlement was established on the Presidio, Cow Hollow was filled with freshwater springs, grassy meadows and sand hills inhabited by wildlife. It wasn’t long before dairy farming became the predominant activity; hence the name Cow Hollow, which has survived to the present.
Is Cow Hollow part of Marina? The Marina and Cow Hollow are separate neighborhoods, with the Marina stretching from the Bay to Lombard Street, and Cow Hollow running several blocks south until it blends into Pacific Heights.
Is Cow Hollow on landfill? It too was slated to be torn down, but the city decided to keep it because it was so beautiful. The expo team did some work on it to extend its life which is why it still stands today. Because most of the San Francisco Marina District is on landfill, it received quite a bit of damage during the 1989 earthquake.
Pacific Heights has an average violent crime rate and a below average property crime rate for San Francisco.

Yerba Buena was the original name of the Mexican settlement that became San Francisco. It comes from a plant (Yerba Buena or “good herb”) which was plentiful in the area.
It is named after the dogfennel that proliferates there. There were packs of dogs that used to scavenge discarded meat parts from Butchertown (a slaughterhouse district located in Bayview) along Islais Creek and up the bay.
Hunters Point derives its name from the Hunters family, who lived on the San Francisco Bay in the 1800s. Hunters Point Naval Shipyard is located on 638 acres of waterfront. In the 1950’s the base employed 8,500 civilians. Prior to decommissioning in 1974, the shipyard was a Navy repair station.
There are many value hotels in Cow Hollow. They are more like motels. The area is safe and fairly convenient, but I don’t recommend staying in that area. Spend a little more money and stay on Union Square, the downtown area.
U. S. rep. Hayes Valley is a neighborhood in the Western Addition district of San Francisco, California. It is located between the historical districts of Alamo Square and the Civic Center.
The northern half of the Marina is a shoreline of the San Francisco Bay, and features the Marina Green, a park adjacent to the municipal boat marina from which the neighborhood takes its name. Much of the Marina is built on former landfill, and is susceptible to soil liquefaction during strong earthquakes.
Foster City was founded in the 1960s, built on the existing Brewer Island in the marshes of the San Francisco Bay on the east edge of San Mateo, enlarged with engineered landfill.
New Yorkers generate about 4.2 million tons of this type of trash/garbage in a typical year. Of that amount, 70.5 percent (about 3 million tons) was disposed of in the state’s Class 3 landfills.

Located in the heart of San Francisco’s Financial District, Tadich Grill is the oldest, continuously run restaurant in California, and third oldest in the United States. We prefer to keep it simple.

Bass Pro Shops announced Tuesday that the company’s founder Johnny Morris has purchased the former Dogpatch USA property. The 400-acre abandoned site was home to a theme park based on Al Capp’s Li’l Abner comic strip. It opened in 1968 along Arkansas Highway 7 in Marble Falls between Harrison and Jasper.
The broadly humorous comic strip was set in the fictitious backwoods community of Dogpatch, U.S.A., and featured Li’l Abner, a shy and awkward rustic; Daisy Mae, a persistent damsel who finally caught Abner after a 17-year pursuit; the pipe-smoking Mammy Yokum; and various social caricatures.
Almost half of toxic cleanup at Hunters Point Shipyard is questionable or faked, according to initial review. But Hunters Point also exists under a cloud of suspicion thanks to the U.S. Navy’s radiological antics on the site during a previous incarnation.
Hayes Valley is in San Francisco County and is one of the best places to live in California. Living in Hayes Valley offers residents a dense urban feel and most residents rent their homes. In Hayes Valley there are a lot of bars, restaurants, coffee shops, and parks.
To the east, heat in the valley creates thinner air and low pressure. The valley becomes like a vacuum that wants to be filled by the heavier marine layer. It pulls that layer over San Francisco, which typically makes the city cooler than other parts of California — and the country — in the summer.
