The ABS wheel speed sensor is located at the wheel, behind the brake rotor, but some are placed directly on the axle. Each vehicle contains a varying amount of ABS wheel speed sensors. If the system contains four ABS wheel speed sensors, there will be one at each wheel behind the rotor.
Where is the ABS sensor on the wheel? The ABS sensor is typically located in each wheel hub/rotor on a four channel ABS system. Some rear wheel drive applications have the sensor mounted in the rear differential.
Is a wheel speed sensor the same as a ABS sensor? The ABS sensor is also called the wheel speed sensor or ABS brake sensor. For example, if an ABS sensor has a broken wire, the entire ABS system will be disabled since the initial self-test will not succeed. The ABS light is yellow for a reason – it indicates that caution should be taken while driving the vehicle, but there is no imminent need to stop.
An ABS control module replacement can range from $320 to over $1,000. The wide price range isn’t really driven by labor cost, which will typically be around $80-$120. It depends on how much the control module costs and how difficult it is to source.
For mechanics, or for handy car owners, the ABS sensor replacement is relatively quick and simple and should take about ten minutes. To make sure the ABS sensor in your car is correctly changed, let a qualified mechanic do it for you.

The most common symptom of a bad ABS sensor is an ABS warning light showing up on your dashboard. You may also notice issues like a pulsating brake pedal while braking or a complete loss of the anti-lock brake system.
Press down on the brake pedal with your hand. You will hear a click at which point you will release the brake. Push and release the brake pedal eight times within three seconds. The ABS light will stop flashing, stay illuminated for one second then will flash four times to indicate you have cleared the light.
A blown fuse will usually deactivate the entire system, or at the very least the circuit that it was responsible for powering. Because the anti-Lock fuse and relays are what power the entire ABS system, they are very important electrical components to any vehicle.

The first fuse (a 10 amp fuse) must be good in order for electricity to flow to the relay, and the relay must function to provide power to the second fuse (a 30 amp fuse). This fuse must be good as well in order for power to flow into the entire ABS system.
